Brian Cunningham was born in 1975 in St Andrews, Scotland. His interest in gardening began at a young age when he helped the greenkeeper at a bowling club where his mother worked. This early exposure sparked his lifelong passion for horticulture.
After leaving school, Cunningham began his career as an apprentice gardener at Craigtoun Country Park near St Andrews. He later worked in several horticultural roles, including positions at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, St Andrews Botanic Gardens, and the Backhouse Rossie Estate in Fife, gaining experience in plant conservation and landscape gardening.
In 2012, he became Head Gardener at Scone Palace in Perthshire, where he manages the historic gardens, including the kitchen garden and Victorian pinetum, while restoring the large walled garden.
