Anna Foster was born on 1 November 1979 in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England. She grew up in the North East of England with her brother. Her father worked as an engineer and her mother as a nurse, and she developed an early interest in journalism and broadcasting.
She studied at South Tyneside College for her A-levels before attending Durham University, where she studied at Collingwood College and worked on student radio. She later completed a postgraduate journalism qualification at City University London, preparing for a career in professional broadcasting.
Foster joined the BBC in 2002, initially working as a reporter for BBC Radio Cleveland. She later moved to national broadcasting, presenting Radio 1’s Newsbeat, BBC Radio 5 Live Weekend Breakfast, and the drive-time programme 5 Live Drive, becoming a familiar voice on British radio news.
