Andrew John Coltart was born on 12 May 1970 in Dumfries, Scotland. He attended Wallace Hall Academy from 1982 to 1988, where he developed his golf alongside his studies, before earning a golf scholarship to Midland College in Texas, where he studied Business and Communications from 1988 to 1991, was named an NJCAA All-American, and was later inducted into the college’s Hall of Fame.

He had a strong amateur career, winning the 1987 Scottish Boys Championship and representing Great Britain & Ireland in the 1991 Walker Cup, before turning professional that same year. On the European Tour he won the 1998 Qatar Masters and the 2001 Great North Open, and represented Europe in the 1999 Ryder Cup at Brookline, where he faced Tiger Woods in the Sunday singles.

Since 2011, Coltart has worked as a golf commentator and lead analyst for Sky Sports Golf, covering tournaments worldwide with a style known for blending technical insight with dry humor.

He lives in Aberlady, Scotland, with his wife, Emma Coltart, and their three children reported as Bonnie, Florence and Iona). His sister, Laurae, was previously married to fellow professional golfer Lee Westwood.
