Amina Smith was born on January 11, 1994, in Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up and developed an early passion for sports through track and field. She attended the University of South Carolina, where she ran track. She later transferred to the University of Miami, where she met her future husband, Deon Bush. 

Smith began her broadcasting career at a local station in Lawrence, Kansas. She then worked her way through a series of media roles, including Big Ten Network, BET Networks, and Stadium Sports. She joined NBC Sports Boston in March 2021 as a multi-platform host and on-air talent, covering the New England Patriots. Additionally, she hosted flagship Celtics programming, including Celtics Pregame Live and Celtics Postgame Live. 

Amina Smith joined ESPN as a SportsCenter anchor in 2024, having previously interned and worked at ESPN from 2014. She anchors the 2 p.m. edition and weekend SportsCenter shows. Beyond her career, she has spoken publicly about balancing her broadcasting career with life as the wife of an active NFL player, with Bush entering his ninth year with the NFL during her debut year at ESPN.
