Alistair Appleton was born on 12 February 1970 in England and grew up in Hampshire. Details about his parents are not widely documented.
He studied English Literature at the University of Cambridge, graduating with a 2:1. After university, he moved abroad, teaching in Poland and Germany, where he began working as a translator and journalist for Deutsche Welle.
Appleton transitioned into television in the late 1990s and early 2000s, presenting programmes such as Cash in the Attic, Garden Invaders, and travel shows. In 2007, he became one of the main presenters of Escape to the Country, which airs on BBC One and BBC Two.
Alongside broadcasting, he developed an interest in meditation and psychotherapy. He later trained professionally, earning a master’s degree in psychotherapy and establishing his own mindfulness business.
He currently lives in Newhaven, East Sussex, with his husband, Daniel balancing television work with therapy and teaching.
