Alex Jones was born 18 March 1977 in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Her birth name is Charlotte Alexandra Jones. She grew up in Tycroes and is the daughter of Mary Jones, a bank manager, and Alun Jones, a sales executive. She also has a younger sister named Jennie.
She attended a Welsh-language school and became fluent in Welsh. As a child she trained in ballet and later pursued a media career. Jones studied Theatre, Film and Television at Aberystwyth University, where she developed an interest in broadcasting and media production.
Her early career began in Welsh television, where she worked as a researcher before becoming a presenter on regional programmes. She appeared on Welsh-language shows such as Tocyn and Chwa and gradually built a reputation in British television.
In 2010, Jones joined BBC One as a co-presenter of The One Show, a live weekday magazine programme broadcast at 7:00 pm. She has remained one of the programme’s main presenters for over a decade and has also hosted BBC programmes such as Shop Well for Less?, Close Calls: On Camera, and Tumble.
Today she lives with her husband, Charlie Thomson and children in the United Kingdom and continues presenting The One Show and other BBC programmes.
