Ahmed Fareed was born in Sparta, Michigan, where he played quarterback for the Sparta High School Spartans. He then attended Michigan State University for one year before transferring to Syracuse University, graduating from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications with a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2002.
Fareed launched his career at WXMI-TV before anchoring weekends at WILX-TV and WSYM-TV in Lansing, Michigan. He then spent five years at WAVY-TV in Portsmouth, Virginia, covering the Washington Redskins, Virginia Tech, and more, before joining MLB Network in 2011. He joined NBC Sports Bay Area in January 2013, covering the Giants, Warriors, and 49ers — including three Warriors NBA championships.
In 2019, he relocated to NBC Sports headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, taking on a national role covering the Olympics, Premier League, college football, and horse racing. He was one of the primary hosts of NBC’s 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics coverage. Off-screen, Fareed is married to Cathleen Fareed. The couple married in November 2011 and have two children. The family resides in Connecticut.
