BET Her is an American cable network that showcases the voices, stories, and perspectives of Black women. It originally launched in 1996 as BET on Jazz, a niche service dedicated to jazz musicians, before rebranding to BET J and later, Centric in 2009. In 2017, the network adopted its current identity, solidifying its mission to serve Black women. Today, it operates as a key asset within the Paramount Skydance Corporation, serving as a specialized lifestyle companion to the main BET network.
BET Her’s programming is famous for its socially conscious anthology series. The network offers a slate of women-centric franchises, such as BET Her Presents, which features short films directed by prominent Black actresses, and About Her Business (a docu-series franchise showcasing Black women entrepreneurs).
The network is also home to the Ms. Pat Williams comedy franchise (Ms. Pat Settles It and The Ms. Pat Show). It also airs scripted dramas available on the main BET network, including Taylor Perry’s hit series Sistas, The Oval, House of Payne, Assisted Living, and Zatima.
Music is a key feature of BET Her, with the network offering programs such as Morning Glow, BET Her Playlist, and Strictly R&B. It also airs live event specials, including The MLK, Jr. Beloved Community Awards, BET Awards, and other black culture award shows.
BET Her also features several notable on-air personalities from the Black community, particularly women. Key figures include Tyka Pryde (Host of the new BET Her original series Design My Space: Atlanta), rapper Yo-Yo (BET Her Live!), Ms. Pat (Ms. Pat franchise), and Aldis Hodge & Anika Noni Rose (live specials).
